Amazon’s new bundle policy could deactivate seller-assembled bundle ASINs
Amazon is making a significant change to physical product bundles. Effective January 11, 2027, most bundles sold under a single ASIN must arrive packaged by the original manufacturer or brand. This directly affects sellers and prep centers that purchase legitimate products, combine them into their own physical kits, and sell the combination as a new ASIN.

What Changed
Seller-assembled bundles generally need a letter of authorization from the brand owner or manufacturer. Noncompliant ASINs can be deactivated after January 11 and recorded as listing violations in Account Health.
Why It Matters
This is more than a listing update. Sellers could be left with stranded FBA inventory, removal costs, disrupted rankings, and bundle-specific packaging that can no longer be used.
What Is Not Changing
Virtual Bundles remain exempt for eligible brand owners and authorized resellers. Amazon also retains exceptions for gifting browse nodes and camera product types. The policy expands certain bundle options involving media products, generic accessories, service plans, gift cards, and authorized multi-brand consumables.
What to Do Now: Immediate operational check
Export every physical bundle ASIN, document who packages it, confirm authorization rights, and estimate the inventory that must sell through before January 11. Do not wait for Amazon to flag the ASIN before beginning the authorization process.
Bigger Picture Signal
Amazon is continuing to move catalog control toward verified brands and original manufacturers, while making independently assembled marketplace products harder to operate.

Amazon advertisers can now reach shoppers inside ChatGPT

Amazon Ads and OpenAI have launched a US pilot that allows select advertisers to extend Amazon advertising campaigns into ChatGPT. Amazon positions the inventory around moments when users are exploring options, comparing choices, and making purchase decisions. Delta Vacations is among the first brands testing it.
What Changed
ChatGPT becomes another off-Amazon inventory source accessible through Amazon Ads. Amazon can combine its shopping, browsing, and streaming signals with conversational advertising inventory outside Amazon’s retail site.
Why It Matters
Brands can potentially reach customers before they begin a keyword search on Amazon. It also gives Amazon a role in monetizing product discovery even when the initial research happens on another company’s platform.
What Is Not Changing
This is a limited pilot for select US advertisers. It is not currently a standard Sponsored Products placement or a self-service option available to every Seller Central advertiser.
What to Do Now: No action required, monitor only
Brands already using Amazon DSP should ask their representative about eligibility, measurement, creative requirements, and whether ChatGPT inventory can be isolated in reporting.
Bigger Picture Signal
Amazon is evolving from a retail media network into a broader advertising access layer for streaming, publishing, and now conversational commerce.

ECommerce is forecast to grow almost twice as fast as total holiday retail

Deloitte expects total holiday retail sales to grow between 4% and 4.8%, reaching as much as $1.71 trillion. Ecommerce is projected to grow between 7.5% and 8.4%, reaching between $316.1 billion and $318.9 billion from November through January.
What Changed
Digital growth is expected to materially outperform the overall retail market. Separate Bain research cited by Retail Dive finds that 24% of holiday shoppers plan to begin product discovery through tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
Why It Matters
The opportunity is growing, but so is competition for digital discovery. Brands need to prepare for customers who compare products across marketplaces, search engines, AI assistants, and retailer sites before purchasing.
What Is Not Changing
Consumers remain highly value-conscious. Promotions, price comparisons, retailer switching, and clear delivery promises will continue to influence conversion. Strong category growth does not guarantee equal growth for every seller.
What to Do Now: Light preparation recommended
Recheck Q4 forecasts at the SKU level, protect promotional inventory, and make product information consistent across every channel. Listings should answer the questions customers are likely to ask AI shopping tools, including materials, compatibility, dimensions, use cases, and differentiators.
Bigger Picture Signal
Holiday growth remains available, but product discovery is fragmenting. Brands must optimize for both traditional marketplace search and AI-assisted comparison.

Walmart expands its Returns Insights dashboard ahead of Q4

Walmart’s enhanced dashboard now provides more detail on return and refund performance, trends, return reasons, and item-level activity. Sellers can also review relevant customer ratings and reviews and receive personalized category-rule recommendations based on their return history.
What Changed
Return information that previously required multiple reports can now be evaluated together. Sellers can connect return reasons with SKU performance, customer feedback, refunded GMV, and processing costs.
Why It Matters
The timing is useful ahead of the holiday return period. Recurring issues such as sizing, damage, misleading images, missing components, or incorrect compatibility can be corrected before Q4 volume amplifies the cost.
What Is Not Changing
The dashboard does not change Walmart’s returns policy or automatically correct item-level issues. Its displayed refund rate may also differ from the rate Walmart uses in Seller Performance calculations.
What to Do Now: Light preparation recommended
Pull the highest-return SKUs and group the reasons into listing, product, packaging, and fulfillment problems. Prioritize issues affecting both return rate and customer ratings.
Bigger Picture Signal
Marketplaces are moving returns data from a financial report into a product-quality and catalog-optimization tool.

Amazon makes coupon creation faster, but the promotion economics remain the same

Amazon has updated the Seller Central coupon workflow to reduce repetitive setup work. Sellers can save incomplete coupons as drafts, preview the complete configuration before submission, and clone previous coupon setups.
What Changed
A step tracker now shows where sellers are in the setup process. The review screen displays the full coupon configuration and every included product, which should make incorrect ASIN selection easier to catch.
Why It Matters
This is a small operational improvement, but it is useful for agencies managing recurring promotions across multiple catalogs. Cloning past setups can reduce setup time and prevent avoidable Q4 errors.
What Is Not Changing
Amazon has not announced a change to coupon fees, discount requirements, validated reference prices, or product eligibility as part of this workflow update.
What to Do Now: No action required, monitor only.
Use the clone option for repeat promotions, but still verify dates, budgets, ASINs, reference prices, and discount depth before submitting.
Bigger Picture Signal
Amazon continues to simplify promotion creation while keeping the underlying pricing and eligibility controls firmly in place.

Teen shoppers are becoming comfortable taking product advice from AI

A Mastercard survey of 26,000 parents and teenagers found that younger shoppers are substantially more comfortable using AI for product research and recommendations. Sixty-two percent of teens use AI at least monthly to research products, compared with 49% of parents.
What Changed
- Twenty-seven percent of teens say they are likely to use a fully AI-operated shopping assistant, compared with 16% of parents.
- Thirty-one percent trust an AI product recommendation more than a recommendation from a friend.
- Twenty-three percent would trust the AI recommendation over guidance from their parents.
- Roughly two-thirds of parents believe AI shopping will help define their children’s generation.
Why It Matters
AI visibility is becoming a long-term customer-acquisition issue. Product data, independent reviews, comparisons, FAQs, and clearly supported claims may determine whether a brand appears when customers ask an assistant what to buy.
What Is Not Changing
Most teens are not yet ready to hand the entire purchase process to AI. Price, reviews, availability, retailer trust, and final customer approval still influence the transaction.
What to Do Now: Light preparation recommended
Build product pages that answer factual comparison questions clearly. Keep attributes consistent across retail channels, publish useful FAQs, monitor how major AI tools describe the brand, and avoid claims that cannot be supported by reliable product information.
Bigger Picture Signal
AI product discovery is becoming normal behavior earlier among younger shoppers. Structured product information may eventually matter to AI assistants as much as traditional SEO matters to search engines.
