A niche sports nutrition and energy brand contacted BellaVix to grow their presence on Amazon.
The brand operated in a difficult position. The product function and main features were unfamiliar to most shoppers, and the category is full of established, recognizable competitors.
Every image on the listing has to do real work. The brand can't rely on name recognition to earn a click, so each creative decision carries more weight than it would for a typical product.
Creative ambition with no direction
The client wanted to lead on creative: copy, photography, photoshoots, full production. They had the resources and the willingness to invest in original assets. BellaVix's role was to act as a strategic advisor through that process.
The Team knew from experience that introducing real life models were going to increase the attractiveness of the brand. This was also important to highlight the function of the product, which was quite innovative and not common in the niche.
The client had real reservations about the creative choice of showing people consuming the product.
The BellaVix Team knew that was the way to go. But without data, those reservations were hard to resolve.
- The client had strong creative standards but no platform-specific data on what actually drives clicks for this kind of product.
- The product had no existing visual conventions in the category to lean on.
Internal opinions on lifestyle imagery versus product-only imagery were split, with no objective way to settle the debate.
Testing Brought a Clear Roadmap
The image showing the product in use won with 58% of the vote, more than double its closest product-only competitor.
The open-ended responses explained why. The reasoning split in two main directions:
- Several respondents said that seeing the product in use built confidence and clarity around how it works.
- Others preferred seeing what each individual packet looked like along with the larger bag, and deemed the models as unnecessary.
These were the results
- Man using the product: 18% of votes
- Woman using the product: 58% of votes
- Packaging only, no person: 18% of votes
- Bag with individual packets shown alongside it: 42% of votes
The result gave the client two clear winners and a specific list of what to fix next. The next step was on them, and we helped them move on with their creative process.
Final Thoughts
The client lacked a concrete and measurable way of determining which of several reasonable creative directions would actually perform on Amazon.
The value of the test sits in the layer underneath the winning image. Real shoppers explained, in their own words, what built trust and what got in the way.
The collaboration model held up here. The client kept control of creative execution. BellaVix brought the structure to test it.
The test cost a fraction of what a single misdirected photoshoot would cost. It gave the client a validated direction to follow next. We like to test the big decision first. Then let shopper feedback shape the details.
Want a Second Set of Eyes on Your Listings?
Strong creative work and strong conversion rates are not the same thing. The gap between them is usually data.
If your listings are not performing at the level your brand deserves, the issue is rarely the product. It is almost always how it is being presented and to whom.
