With Amazon Prime Day 2026 weeks away,  lost revenue during your highest-traffic window of the year is a scenario that you really want to avoid at all costs.

Stranded inventory is one of those issues that can quietly hurt your Amazon business and your bottom line. Your products are in the warehouse and ready to go, but they aren’t live, so they’re not generating any sales. By the time you notice the issue, storage costs have already started adding up.

The good news is that most stranded inventory problems are easy to fix once you understand what’s causing them. In this guide, you’ll learn how to identify the issue, apply the right fix, and prevent it from happening again.

What Is Stranded Inventory on Amazon?

Stranded inventory is stock stored in an Amazon warehouse that cannot be sold because the listing is inactive.

The units exist, but the listing is not active due to an error or an issue, making the product practically invisible to potential customers. So the units just sit there and storage costs grow.

With Amazon Prime Day 2026 approaching, the urgency to fix these issues is higher than usual. Units sitting stranded in the warehouse during the event are a direct hit to your Prime Day revenue.

You can quickly fix stranded inventory by asking Amazon to send those units back to a location that’s under your control. Of course, this is not the best-case scenario, since you have to pay for the transportation and, in turn, miss the opportunity to advertise product and generate sales.

In the best-case scenario, you create a listing to back those units up and make some sales. You can do this, but the solution greatly depends on what is causing your listing to be inactive.

Most cases come down to a few issues:

Listing removed or suppressed (most common)

If a listing is closed, deleted, or suppressed, Amazon has no active offer to attach the inventory to.

Of these three cases, suppression can be the most complex. Amazon can trigger a listing suppression for a long list of reasons, ranging from having a restricted term on your copy (easy fix), missing the deadline to deliver a compliance document like a GMP Certification or positive Third-Party Testing result, or your product has an ingredient that’s prohibited on the platform, making it unsellable.

Pricing issues

Many pricing errors can prevent the listing from being sellable. Some examples:

Detail page changes through copy updates

Updating your copy can result in stranded inventory if you include restricted terms like medical claims or copyrighted trademarks, since your listing is automatically suppressed until you change it.

Brand or compliance issues (most common)

Some categories require approval before selling. If inventory arrives before approval is granted, it becomes stranded. The same happens if Amazon flags restricted content, unauthorized trademarks, or missing certifications such as GMP or child-safety documents.

How to Fix Your Stranded Inventory

Here’s the fastest way to find the problem and start fixing it.

First, go to the sidebar and click on FBA Inventory:

Then, scroll through the dropdown menu and click on Fix Stranded Inventory:

You will see the complete list of Stranded Inventory, along with the reason behind it and the number of units:

As you can see on the right side of the chart, Amazon offers a quick solution if applicable. For example, in the first two items, the stranded units were listed as deleted.

Meanwhile, in the items that follow, the issue is that their ASINs have been restricted due to intellectual property concerns, quality issues, or product safety.

In those specific cases where no “quick” solution applies, Amazon will give you the option of appealing the restriction through a POA.

Re-list closed listings

If the listing was closed when you ran out of stock, you can usually fix it with a one-click re-list option directly from the stranded inventory page.

Fix fulfillment method issues (FBA vs FBM)

If your listing is set to FBM but inventory is sitting in Amazon’s warehouse, you’ll need to convert it back to FBA so you can sell those units again.

Resolve compliance or restriction issues

If Amazon is asking for documents, submit them as soon as possible. Until then, the listing stays inactive, and inventory remains stranded.

Handle deleted listings with remaining units

If Amazon finds leftover units from an old listing:

  • For a few units, create a removal order.
  • For larger quantities, it’s usually better to create a new listing and sell them.

What to Do If Nothing Works? Contact Amazon Support

Contacting Amazon Seller Support is necessary if the standard methods do not fix the problem. First, you’re going to click on Get help and resources at the top right of the Seller Central home page:

Once you’re in, the trick is avoiding the automated loop from Seller Support. Clicking the predefined help categories usually takes you to a bot-generated template that tells you to fix the issue using one of the methods we already covered above.

Instead, you need to force a manual review.

Right below the predetermined inquiries, click on My issue is not listed:

This prevents the system from categorizing you into an automated resolution process. Once you get to the text box, you need to provide a well-argued explanation of the issue.

List the specific steps you’ve already taken to resolve the issue- and if you can- provide documentation that the issue is not on your side, but rather a problem with Amazon itself.

Why Live Chat Increases Your Chances of Fixing Stranded Inventory

Once you are ready to send your case, the channel you choose matters. We highly recommend using the chat function.

In a chat, you are almost certainly talking to a real human being in real-time, making it much harder for them to close your case with a canned response. Have the details of your case ready to send, and if everything goes right, Amazon will resolve your issue shortly after.

Emailing Amazon Support also usually works, but it’s likely a bot will answer the first few emails and the issue will not be resolved as quickly as you would hope.

The fastest way to get a human to analyze your case is to use live chat in the Manage Support Cases section.

How to Prevent Stranded Inventory

Prevention comes down to better listing optimization and inventory management.

Check listings before sending inventory

Make sure the listing is active, approved, and fully compliant before inventory reaches the warehouse. Check listings before sending inventory and again before Prime Day. Make sure every listing you plan to run promotions on is active, approved, and fully compliant at least two weeks before the event. Amazon doesn’t pause policy enforcement during high-traffic periods.

Avoid editing live ASINs carelessly

Major changes to titles or product details can break the connection between your SKU and the listing.

Submitting compliance documents on time

These include Third-Party Verifications or GMP certifications across different categories of the platform.

Monitor stranded inventory regularly

Check the report frequently so you can fix issues early before they pile up. Check the report frequently so you can fix issues early before they pile up. In the weeks leading up to Amazon Prime Day 2026, check it daily. A listing that goes inactive in the final week before the event may not be recoverable in time.

Use separate SKUs for FBA and FBM

Using the same SKU for both fulfillment methods creates constant switching issues. The better approach is one SKU for FBA and a different one for FBM.

This allows both to remain active simultaneously, avoids manual switching, and prevents inventory from becoming stranded as stock moves between channels.

Manage stock levels strategically

Sellers who send inventory before running out, tend to avoid stranded inventory. Constantly going out of stock increases the chances of closed listings and stranded units when new shipments arrive.

Conclusion

Stranded inventory is a common issue, but heading into Amazon Prime Day 2026, common doesn’t mean harmless.

In most cases it’s easy to fix once you identify the root cause. Inventory planning and listing optimization will help you avoid most of these issues altogether and keep your products available for sale.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stranded Inventory on Amazon (FAQs)

What does stranded inventory mean on Amazon?

It means your inventory is in Amazon’s warehouse, but your listing is inactive, so the product cannot be sold. During high-traffic events like Amazon Prime Day 2026, a stranded listing means your product is invisible to buyers at the exact moment demand peaks.

Where can I find stranded inventory in Seller Central?

Go to Inventory → Manage FBA Inventory and filter by “Fix Stranded Inventory.”

What is the most common cause of stranded inventory?

Closed or suppressed listings, often after going out of stock.

Can pricing issues cause stranded inventory?

Yes. Missing or invalid prices can deactivate the offer and leave the inventory stranded.

How quickly can stranded inventory be fixed?

Some fixes, like re-listing, are instant. Others, such as compliance issues or support cases, can take longer.

Should I remove stranded inventory or re-list it?

Re-list it if you plan to keep selling. Remove it if the product is no longer viable or only a few units remain.

How does stranded inventory affect my Amazon Prime Day 2026 results?

Any ASIN that’s stranded during Prime Day cannot receive traffic, run sponsored ads, or be included in deals regardless of how much inventory you have in the warehouse.

What should I prioritize when fixing stranded inventory before Prime Day?

Start with your best-selling ASINs and any products you plan to run Lightning Deals or promotions on. A stranded listing disqualifies you from Prime Day deals regardless of your inventory levels. After those, work through compliance-related strandings. Simple re-listings and pricing fixes can wait until last if bandwidth is limited.
